Vacation Day 15: A Rainy Day in Kuta

Our second day in Kuta proved to consist of a lot of shopping and eating, because the weather wasn't great- it rained and was fairly cool for the most part, so we had a good excuse to spend more money!!!

We did manage to see some of the town sights throughout the day, too, in the dry intervals between downpours. Kuta is considered a surfing mecca and it would seem that many of the visitors to Kuta are die-hard surfers, thinking nothing of venturing out into a storm to catch a few waves.

There are many large statues around Bali, but for the most part we weren’t sure what they represented. Take, for example, gun-toting man…

We did recognize this as an ogo-ogo, a spirit of Bali. During the New Year, the Balinese people build large monstrous characters that represent the coming of the spirits. They are very colourful and often quite grotesque.

And, of course, there’s McDonald’s in Bali, and Ronald always does his best to fit in…

After our shopping and eating spree we went to the airport to catch our flight to our final destination, Kuala Lumpur.

Until next time,
Heather
